Sherry attended Boise State University and obtained her Nursing and Bachelors in Health degree. She is a native Idahoan. She started her career in Labor and Delivery room in 1974.

On her day off she loves to scrapbook, read, play with her golden retrievers, and play cribbage. Her favorite food is potatoes. Her grandfather was an Idaho potato framer. Her grandmother was her principal thru all her elementary years. She would have described Sherry as friendly, talkative, and a great reader.

Who inspires Sherry: Her Grandmother Dee, one of the most patient and caring women she knew who always put family first and is the person she was named after along with her daughters.

Dr. Butto completed her undergraduate training at the University of California @ Santa Cruz, then went on to medical training at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  She pursued pediatric training and served as chief resident at Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital before beginning her service to Alaska’s children in 1995.  In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Butto is actively engaged in teaching medical students and residents, in her academic appointments as a Clinical Professor in the University of Washington School of Medicine, Adjunct Associate Professor in the University of Alaska WWAMI Biomedical Program, and as Co-Coordinator of the Alaska WWAMI site for Pediatrics.  She has been deeply involved with leadership of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and served as Alaska chapter president.  She has also served on the AAP Membership Committee and is Co-coordinator of the Alaska Chapter PROS (Pediatric Research in the Office Setting). Dr. Butto has served Alaska as Secretary-Treasurer of the Alaska State Medical Association.  She is a member of the state Metabolic Screening Advisory Committee and is a Mentor for the Anchorage School District.  She has been the Medical Director for the Asthma camp.  She has been on the Children’s Hospital at Providence PICU, Recruitment and Nursery Committees, and served as Pediatric Department Chair from 2010-2012.  Dr. Butto has done research on febrile infants, salmon hemoglobin, and has participated in the LAND (Life Around Newborn Discharge) Study and the Safety Check.  She was the course director for the 22nd Annual Pediatric Conference on the ABCs of Adolescence in 2003.  She has attended training to host an HPV vaccine MOC-IV activity for chapter members.
